My Three Things: World Cup, UFC, July 4th

1976, the two hundredth anniversary of US Independence, was a great year to celebrate. The United States was the envy of the world, possessing arguably the greatest science, healthcare, and education. Scientists and other experts at the top of their game sought to work in the USA.

I was in the Air Force. My family and I lived in England. It was a great time to be an American abroad. At historic Greenwich, the British put on a wonderful exhibit of the American Revolution from their perspective. I remember some exceptionally great parties. I was proud to be an American then; not so much this year.

My what changes came about in fifty years. Today, the United States is a laughingstock, led by villains and idiots, and admired by few, if any, nations. Our scientific, healthcare, and education reputations are middling at best, with their global rankings in free fall.

Consider, Freedom 250 as felon trump hijacking our 250^th national celebration to glorify himself rather than the nation. Do not partake. I will likely celebrate July Fourth in the street and at the grill. But before, during, and after that day, I will enjoy the World Cup. Football, or soccer in the US and Canada, is the most popular global sport. This World Cup my teams are the USA, England, and Argentina, whose official shirt I was recently gifted.

Soccer is now the third most popular sport in the USA. I played, coached, and loved watching Soccer. Felon trump can have his UFC hot, sweaty man-on-man fights. Watch the World Cup. Beware of our weak and failing old felon as his decay accelerates.
